RADIUS service taking long time to start

Hi All,

I have the following problem with my RADIUS server, which is Cistron-1.6.3,
on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0:

1] When I try to start the process from the command line - [root at RADIUS
admin]# /usr/local/sbin/radiusd, the process takes a very long time to start
and almost hangs.

2] On checking the process - [root at RADIUS raddb]$ ps -ax | grep radius

 1793 pts/0 S 0:00 /usr/local/sbin/radiusd

 1810 pts/1 S 0:00 grep radius

3] After some time I get the following - [root at RADIUS raddb]$ ps -ax | grep
radius

 1811 ? S 0:00 /usr/local/sbin/radiusd

 1812 ? S 0:00 /usr/local/sbin/radiusd

 1834 ? S 0:00 /usr/local/sbin/radiusd

 1835 ? S 0:00 /usr/local/sbin/radiusd

 1842 ? S 0:00 /usr/local/sbin/radiusd

 1845 ? S 0:00 /usr/local/sbin/radiusd

 1851 pts/1 S 0:00 grep radius

[root at RADIUS raddb]$ kill -9 1834 1835 1842 1845

-bash: kill: (1834) - No such process

-bash: kill: (1835) - No such process

-bash: kill: (1842) - No such process

-bash: kill: (1845) - No such process

4] Finally the process runs (after checking through radtest) [root at RADIUS
raddb]# ps -ax | grep radius

 1811 ? S 0:00 /usr/local/sbin/radiusd

 1812 ? S 0:00 /usr/local/sbin/radiusd

 1866 pts/0 S 0:00 grep radius

I again killed the process and restarted using /usr/local/sbin/radiusd, but
this time I faced no problems, and the service started instantaneously with
no problems. Currently facing no problems.

Any pointers as to why this anomaly occurred?

Thanks in advance.
